Letter Source: At first glance, this letter appears to have originated in Palo Alto, California. It didn't. According to eMailTrackerPro, the letter was misdirected. Upon examination of the time stamps in the Full Headers, it shows the letter originated in the +0100 Time Zone. This time zone includes Spain, and if you scroll down to the bottom of the email you will see advertisement for a Spanish email service, email.trucoteca.com, and that's the email service that was used to send this email. Is the author of the letter actually sitting at a computer in Spain? Maybe, maybe not. Spain is a hotbed of Nigerian scammers. However, the above Time Zone also includes Nigeria, and Nigerian scammers are known to use proxy blinds to access the Internet and to subscribe to Internet Provider Services (ISP) outside the country. They also use satellite hookups through Gilat satcom in Israel and similar satellite hookup services in the US, but that method does not show up in the Headers for this letter. Even if the letter had originated in Palo Alto it would make no sense. Why would the US-based Head of Sales for a foreign company be Spamming in search of a representative to receive funds that can only legally be made payable to that company? All the so called Head of Sales would have to do is open a local bank account for Tran Export Company. We reported this letter to both the Spanish email service and to Yahoo (with the Full Headers, otherwise the abuse report is bounced). Yahoo's auto response states that they have received several complaints about the same email.
