HOW TO WRITE AN EFFECTIVE FRAUD REPORT:

MAKING COPIES OF YOUR DOCUMENTATION

<< Step #3 Chain of Events                                                        Step #5 Who To Call >>

MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING, AND DO IT RIGHT.

YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID.

Step #4  MAKING COPIES:

  1. Make 2 copies each of your Names and Contacts List, your Items of Proof with Post-It Notes attached, your Items of Proof List, and your Chain of Events List.

  2. Be sure to copy each Item of Proof individually.

  3. Be sure to center each Item of Proof on the copier.

  4. NEVER, EVER WRITE ANYTHING DIRECTLY ON THE ITEMS OF PROOF.

  5. NEVER, EVER STAPLE ITEMS OF PROOF TOGETHER.

  6. DON'T FOLD ANYTHING, NOT THE ITEMS OF PROOF NOR ANY OF YOUR LISTS.

  7. Place your Name and Contact List original, your Items of Proof originals, and your Items of Proof List original in the envelope marked "ORIGINALS."    Place this envelope in a safe place, preferably in a safe deposit box.

  8. Place one set of copies in the POLICE / FBI envelope.  You will be handing this envelope to the authorities.

  9. Place the other set of copies the WORKING COPY envelope.  These copies will now be your working copies.  If you spill coffee on them, nothing is lost.

If, as you go along you find additional material:

(a) Make copies as indicated above.

(b) Put originals where they belong.

(c) Send your agent-in-charge or officer-in-charge one copy, marked with the date the copy was made.

(d) If the change or addition is to your Chain of Events List (or Narrative), mark with "Date ______.  This is an addendum to _____, dated ___________."
