Police claim breakthrough in investigation of lottery scam

The police say they have been making inroads into a lottery scam taking place in Montego Bay, St. James.

At least five persons, including two policemen, have so far been taken into custody in connection with the scam.

The two policemen have been reportedly exploiting persons involved in the scam.

Speaking on RJR's Beyond the Headlines on Thursday Sergeant Carl Brown from the Area One Fraud Squad said a ruling is being awaited from the Director of Public Prosecution on the status of the policemen.

He added that the scam involves millions of dollars.

Sergeant Brown said the police investigations are spreading to areas adjoining Montego Bay.

The police have linked violence in sections of St. James to the lottery scam.
