Black Dollar Scam:

A con game in which the victim is presented with currency, usually U.S. dollars, which are painted black.  In one case, a box of stolen U.S. dollars stamped with an official US stamp stating that they had been taken out of circulation was used for this scam.

The victim is told that by the use of a special chemical, the black coating or stamp may be removed and the money will once again be usable.  Real currency is then "cleaned" with the chemical as a demonstration.

The victim purchases the chemical and, in the case of the black coating, is given plain pieces of black paper which he is to clean and share with the fraudsters. Also see 419 and MONEY LAUNDERING PROCESSES pages.
