A variation on a familiar scam has surfaced again in Taft.

Grand jury indicts Plano man with mail fraud and making false statements in used car sales

 

 

It's an international lottery swindle that gives them a phony check for several thousand dollars and promises them hundred of thousands of more if they only send in a couple thousand of their own money.

It's a letter with a letterhead of a London, England business with a Canadian return address telling people to send their checks to the African nation of Ghana.

At least one Taft resident received the information through the mail but, instead of falling for it, checked with his bank and turned the material over to the Taft Police Department. ...
